When students are making sense of their understanding of letters, it helps to have them play with magnetic letters and complete open sorts and closed sorts. Some teachers also have students sort with paper letters to record their thinking too.
Mrs. Meachum has TONS OF IDEAS on her site! They are awesome!!!!!
-monkey tail/no monkey tail
-has a dot/does not have a dot
-has a straight line/does not have a straight line
***There are LOTS more ways to SORT!

The teacher introduces the letter, reads the song book, the kids listens to the song and helps the kids to learn the song.
The kids are encouraged to bring a picture from home to add to the chart.
