Letter Cycle Idea

The teacher introduces the letter, reads the song book, the kids listens to the song and helps the kids to learn the song.

The kids are encouraged to bring a picture from home to add to the chart.

Beginning Sound

Diane, an awesome kindergarten teacher at Littleton Public Schools, implemented a phonemic awareness center in her room. It was awesome!

Helping students work in a literacy center independently is a skill that Diane excells at!  This page of direction above helps a lot!

The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie

A wonderful kindergarten teacher, Diane, who taught the Shared Reading Lesson for, The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie  http://www.amazon.com/Know-Swallowed-Picture-Puffin-Books/dp/0140565957/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1321819865&sr=1-7       , last week sent my pictures!

She found the puppet and play food for the retelling part. The students were so excited!

This is the Little Old Lady!  http://www.amazon.com/There-Was-Old-Lady-Storysack/dp/0859538354/ref=sr_1_cc_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1321819971&sr=1-3-catcorr    She found her own food items since the Old Lady swallows different items in this story.

The students made their own Old Lady with a baggy as a tummy to hold their food on day five.  The students retell the story with their own Old Lady.

We used the Houghton Mifflin chart to reinforce sequencing chart.  The children practiced retelling the story using the sequence skill in the pocket chart, and on their own papers and their own little pieces.

(Diane took this teaching opportunity in science to include a lesson on food groups, notice the sort in the pocket chart)

Students had several opportunities to retell the story using the puppet after the teacher modeled.  Each student also made their own puppet.

I wrote up the Shared Reading lessons on Writing Every Day Works.

The materials are from the site:  http://lilcountrykindergarten.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-know-old-lady-who-swallowed-pie.html

This is NOT ALL that Diane did.  This is just the wonderful extra that http://candokinders.blogspot.com/2011/11/youve-gotta-see-this.html and  http://lilcountrykindergarten.blogspot.com/2011/11/i-know-old-lady-who-swallowed-pie.html did not write about yet.

Enjoy! Deb
