Fix-It Strategies
Strategies
Students should be able to look back in the text or look forward in the text to solve the problem that blocked your meaning-getting, and be able to describe the thinking of how the student solved the problem.
Questions that help the student think about what is impacting meaning making:
What fix-it strategies do your students know?
Do they know that students must stop when the text stops making sense?
Are they able to identify what is blocking their meaning?
Are the students thinking about the strategy they know that could be used to fix the problem?
After identifying the strategy, are the students able to apply the strategy?
Does the student test to see if the problem is fixed?
