SSR matters to High School kids too.  My two highschoolers read all the time.  I don’t force them too, they choose to read.  My husband and I have blessed books and encouraged them to read.  We discuss books.

  1. My kids read, too. I can’t imagine having kids who don’t!

My 8 year old only reads chapter books at school, but at home he devours graphic novels and reads a ton. His teacher wants the kids to read 20 minutes a day, but he probably reads 1 to 2 hours a day. My 11 year old reads chapter books — Twilight, Pendragon, The 29 Clues, Ender’s Game, the Penderwicks, etc. He reads 30 to 60 minutes daily.

And I read at breakfast, lunch, and bedtime every single day….reading is such a joy, and I wish everyone could share it.
