Eve Bunting is an awesome author who writes tons of books. This book is a must own it yourself! This is not a borrow from the library book! She writes of a step-mom who knows how to allow the step-daughter the time she needs to accept her. I won’t ruin the wonderful story that Eve writes. It is beautiful. The little girl strings buttons on the ‘memory string’ to keep her memories intact. The family understands this and encourages it. How do you keep the memories intact in your family?
My own mom scrapbooks for and with every grandchild. Currently there are 7. I am sure more will be born and more scrapbooks will be added. Her own children (me included) do not scrapbook with our own children. She does it for them. She is a blessing in NUMEROUS ways. When I read The Memory String to a group of students, it always reminds me of my own mom. I tell them about my mom’s scrapbooks.
